Officially Validated :)

Not having a computer is really starting to get to me. There are so many things that I need to do with one, tasks that can’t be done on my phone, and I don’t know how much longer I can live like this.

You don’t know what you got till its gone!

After work yesterday I was so pleasantly surprised to find that someone ordered an item from my Chairish account. It’s my first sale from that site so I am super duper stoked! I only had two items listed on there, the Henredon cocktail table and a newer piece, a Mongolian Lamb floor pillow. The cushion sold! It’s a beautiful piece and I am sad to see it go but it is too large for my space and it deserves to be shown off, so I am thrilled that someone else can use it and even more thrilled they could afford to buy it!

I want to make the packaging nice for them and that is why I was complaining about not having a computer.. I want to type a nice packing slip but I suppose I could just hand write a card, that is more personal anyway :)

Aside from the packing slip I really need a computer to set up my Chairish site so it looks more professional. Right now it is unfinished and looks terrible. I also want to work on my eBay shop and start a new website just for the items I am selling and a mini blog of all things home. I can’t do any of that from my phone.

You guys, I am so excited! This is really starting to happen! It’s been slow but I haven’t been really trying to sell anything. I was just starting to set up shop on Chairish and eBay. I haven’t even posted anything on Craigslist in months. This sale makes me want to sell everything I have though lol

I started my business plan about 2 weeks ago and it got tough so I put it aside. I realize I won’t be sucessful if I don’t get that hammered down though so I am getting back on it this week. I also want to start working on weekly, monthly and quarterly goals. Little goals lead to big ones! I also have to get book keeping set up and register my business officially! I need the business plan before I can do any of that, so it’s important!!

Well, happy Friday! Today I am giving my mom her jar and buttons, I seriously hope she loves them!!

Shop Talk

It feels so good to be off for the next two days. I only work three days a week but two of them are long days and the third is a half day in between days off. I’m not complaining at all, my schedule is awesome but it sure is tiresome, especially since I was a stay at home mom for 5 years. It’s harder to get used to being in the real world than I thought!

It feels great to be back in the real world though, getting dressed with a purpose. Wearing makeup and fixing my hair has been great for me. I felt like such a slob when I wasn’t getting ready to do anything everyday and had lost my touch for picking out outfits. It’s been a lot of fun to be girly again and have pride in my appearance. It’s easier to get ready to face the world now, that’s for sure.

Before I didn’t have many clothes that fit me and I always practically cried when I had somewhere to get dressed for. Since I now need to be presentable at least 3 days a week I bought some nice clothes that fit and have quite a few outfits that I feel confident in. That’s so important, isn’t it? Feeling confident changes the whole game.

I often get asked if I am the owner of the shop and I think it is because I am confident and proud to work there.

At the shop yesterday I started working on promoting our clothing selection. We have some really nice clothes and they sell but usually to the older crowd. There is a lot of nice stuff there for the young crowd too and I am trying to market towards them. Business has been slow with the holidays coming but I think if the teens know we have good things they will come! Fingers crossed.

I really am trying hard to promote on Facebook. On Thursday I plan on doing more, this time with some of the great dresses we just got in. These dresses are great and would be beautiful for holiday parties, New Years Eve is coming! I heard my boss say we have a maniquin in storage and I’d love to pull it out! If we had more than one I could set up a nice window display.. maybe I’ll look around on Craigslist and see if I can find a few.

Okay well I hope you all have a great Tuesday!

Don’t forget to add a title :P

I still don’t have a working computer to write on. It’s holding me back from posting and really getting me down. Aidan ordered a special screwdriver set to try to open my laptop up and maybe (hopefully) fix it. The tools should be arriving today so my fingers are crossed I’ll be typing on a full keyboard within the next few days!

How is everyone doing? Are you ready for Christmas? Are you ready for the new year? Personally I am very ready for the new year. Not that this one has been unkind to me, I’m just ready to see all that happens in the upcoming weeks and months regarding getting my shop up and running, at least online. I really need my computer to work for that!

I’ve been collecting a few things and cleaning out my attic little bits at a time, building an inventory on eBay. I haven’t sold anything yet but I have a feeling deep inside of me that it’s the right place to start and that once I sell one thing my little shop will take off.

I’ve been fairly organized about it and have a dedicated bin for the items I have listed. I will be trying to set up a shelf in my work room and get them prepackaged if this actually takes off. Please cross your fingers for me. Any money that I make now is seed money for the big goal of opening a real store in the next 5 years. I think I will need about 10,000$ to open a store. That’s about 40$ a week so it’s attainable but I’d like to be self sufficient and build up to that through sales. It’ll give me practice too!

I still have to write a business plan. I know I don’t really need a computer for that but I do need to be able to sit down quietly and work. That is hard for me, I tend to get so distracted thinking about all of the things I need to do. Also, kids. I read an article recently about a woman who opened her own very successful business by working every night on it for the minimum of two hours. That’s what I need to do after the boys are asleep.. if I can stay awake!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted some of the things I’ve gotten for the house to keep! Here are a few pictures just to shake things up a bit..

This is an original oil painting of a little girl who likes like the female version of my youngest son. At first I wasn’t going to buy it but when I thought someone else was going to purchase it my heart sank. Needless to say I scooped her up immediately after the customer left. I call her Esme, which was a name we picked if Maddox would have been a girl. The name of my shop/company is Esmes Estate, so she will be with me for a long time :)

This picture could have been taken better but it is what it is :) This item is a vintage goldleafed candle holder featuring santa with his sled and reindeer. I need to find candles for it but think it will make a lovely centerpiece for Christmas dinner.

I don’t think I’ve shown you this print yet.. The original painting was done in the 1800’s by an artist of the name Jacob Van Walscapelle. Most (if not all) of his pieces contained paintings of flowers and bugs. I absolutely love, love, love this painting. I could stare at it every day and find something new. I need to get it properly framed. The frame I have it in right now isn’t the right size and I actually broke the glass when I was trying to get it in. I’ll have a professional do it at some point..

That big blob of black on the floor is a Mongolian Sheepskin floor pillow. It is super luxurious but too big for my space. This is an item I am selling so if you are interested in feel free to contact me :)

Another item I love, love, love is this cheetah print cowhide pillow. It is fantastic and has a black velvet back. It’s a high end pillow by the designer Robert Allen and I scored it for 16.50 or something around there. Love it! It ties the odd ball colored chairs into my living room perfectly! Forgive the bad lighting, and color of the walls, etc. it’s still dark outside :)
So those are a few items I’ve gotten for myself in the past month or so :) What do you think? Have you bought yourself anything special lately?

Class of 2016

I am so happy and proud to say that Regina pulled it together in the last few days of school and earned her diploma! Seriously. I doubted her and she admitted to me before the ceremony she had even doubted herself.. but she did it!

I am a very proud mama :)

Right now she is on a vacation with her Dad and his girlfriend in California. They’ve been gone for almost a week and are driving up the coast. She deserves that awesome trip more than anyone I know and I am so glad that they took her.

Even though she hasn’t been gone for too long I really miss her being here. With Marshal away and her not here it is giving me a little taste of what life will be like when they move out. Those days are numbered now I suppose.

I was admittedly really sad at her graduation and cried a bit on the way home. I kept giving myself the lecture “Who cries at graduation?” I’m guessing a lot of parents do. I can’t believe how fast time moves.

Well, now that that is over…

I hope everyone had a really wonderful Christmas. I hope you all were able to spend time with your families and friends and I hope your gatherings were nice.

We had a really nice Christmas this year. On Christmas Eve we went to my parents and we got to see my sister and her husband and baby, my brother and my parents. Maddox and Logan both had a blast and enjoyed all of the attention and of course, the presents.

Aidan and I were up until 2am getting the wrapping finished up, putting together the kitchen set and then putting the gifts out.

Mandatory tree drama..

We decided to put the little boys gifts in front of the fireplace and not under the tree because this is what it looks like:

IMG_1844

Yes friends, my tree must have heard all the shit I was talking and decided on revenge. It’s dropping all of it’s needles. ALL. OF. IT’S. NEEDLES. Do you see that pile to the right?

IMG_1846

Yes, that one.. That was only one of many. It may just look like a pile of green, but that is a massive pile of needles. Billions of them. Gazillions of needles everywhere.

All we can do is laugh really. I mean the ridiculousness of the whole tree situation is just flat out laughable.

And yet.. Aidan still doesn’t want to get a fake tree next year.

The point is.. we were smart to put the gifts in front of the fireplace and not under the tree. If anyone blinks too hard needles fall and cover anything in their path to the floor.

Reaching under the tree for gifts was NOT an option. Breathing in the same room is barely an option at this point.

Holly Jolly Christmas..

Aside from the tree and a small tiff with Aidan on Christmas Eve everything went smoothly and fantastic. Logan had SO much fun opening gifts and playing with his kitchen set.

I took a video of his reaction coming down in the morning. I love him so much, he is so adorable! And “so excited!” :)

Maddox even had a fun time opening his gift and playing with toys. Aidan seemed to really like the shirts Regina and I picked out for him and the other gifts I ordered. They were even the right size! Win!

When the big kids came home they were happy and thankful and really appreciated the gifts they received.

It was a nice morning.

In the afternoon Aidan and I went with the little’s to Aidan’s sister’s house for a family party. I felt awful (tired and sick) so I rested on the ride and once we got there I felt much better. It was a really nice party with great food and a happy family. Logan and Maddox both had a great time and that always makes me happy.

So Much Activities!

Logan’s first active Christmas was a success! I wanted it to be the best Christmas ever for him so he will look forward to it again next year. We did so many activities leading up to the main event:

  • Elf on the Shelf
  • made a lot of ornaments
  • made a lot of cookies
  • wrapped presents
  • looked at lights
  • had special outfits
  • saw Santa on a firetruck
  • met Santa in person
  • did the advent calendar
  • decorated the house
  • read stories
  • watched movies

Now of course I’ll have to hear about Santa and presents forever.. I guess I better start looking up crafts to make for Valentines Day! Gotta keep moving, right?!

New Tradition.. Beat the tree?

Today we are going to take what’s left of the “tree” down. It’s really early but it isn’t going to last much longer. I’m surprised it’s still standing in all it’s wondrous glory.

Honestly, I just don’t want anymore ornaments to fall and break otherwise I’d keep it up just to see if we could cover the whole floor with needles. Ha! We expect that there won’t be any needles left on it by the time I get the lights off so I guess I’ll find out.

However, if there are any still holding on Aidan wants to knock it a few times and see if he can’t get them all off before dragging it through the house and out the door. It’ll be like a pinata minus the treats.

Well, again, I hope you all had a great holiday and I’m not sad it’s over so you shouldn’t be either. Now we get to look forward to the New Year :)
