Quick Catch Up & Happy Easter!

Well, hello! It’s been a crazy long time since I’ve written and for no other reason that I’ve been crazy busy! How are all of you? I hope you are doing well and enjoying the changing of the seasons! Spring is here and in full bloom :) Aidan has been working on the yard and getting it to look nice so that makes me super happy!

Tomorrow is Easter and I am hosting a small brunch. Yay! Up until about 5 years ago I hosted Easter brunch every year and I am really excited to be doing it again. There will only be like 5 people coming (as opposed to the old 20 count) but I am making a ton of food for them! I hope it will turn out well ;)

My store has really started taking off and it was really a great move to partner up with the clock guy I met through my work. He mostly has clock parts for me to sell for him but he also has a really good eye and finds some really neat stuff. It all sells well too and I am making money :)

Check out these antique tea cups! Some are listed and the others will be going live soon!

Aren’t they just amazing? I would love to have all of these to use in an office and I really can’t decide which is my favorite. They really are works of art and super extravagant!

I met my first goal of $1,000 in sales March and now I am nearing the $2,000 mark, it’s a really good feeling. My new goal that I am working towards is $1,000 in profit and I am pretty sure I have hit that already :) So I need some new goals! I have quite a few in mind :)

Aside from partnering up and making sales I’ve been finding some really cool stuff! The great thing about all of this is that I can buy all the things I love or that I want and then I keep them for a little while and enjoy them while they wait for their new home!

My inventory system needs a little (or a lot) of tweaking but for the most part I am pretty organized and (kind of) clutter free. My system is a bit chaotic as I am learning but it is finding a natural flow. I will need to figure a better system out soon though because if things keep going at this rate I will be upgrading my store to hold 2,000 listings a month. Right now I am at the 500 listings a month and half way through I am worried I am running out of listings. Like I said, goals in mind..

Well, I had to take Regina to work and now I have to get some housework done. I hope you all have a great holiday and I will try to write more soon!

More about the store..

Things have been going well here except that I am sooooo tired. I can’t even tell you how tired I have been, it’s that bad. If Aidan hadn’t gotten snipped I would think I was pregnant, that’s how tired I am! I suppose it’s because I have been doing so much lately that my body isn’t used to it, but it better catch up!

My sales on eBay pretty much came to a hault after 2 weeks into the month of February and that was very disappointing and totally nerve wracking. I was on my way to $1,000 then it just stopped and only video games sold after that, which I make only about $.50 on, so that was really aggravating. I messed with my keywords in the SEO part of my store though and I believe that had a lot to do with the down turn. It probably takes a few weeks for that to register?

Anyway I woke up to an okay sale this morning and I am feeling like things will turn back around :) I’m also thinking maybe people buy more frivolous things in the beginning of the month, we will see!

Marshal was inspired by my selling and started his own eBay, he is doing fantastic! He’s sold all but one of his items out of 5 and in my opinion that’s super impressive. I told him he will be beating me in sales soon. He said he wants to get into antiques like I am into. I don’t really have a lot to deal with antiques, I only have a handful of items, but that’s just because I haven’t come across too many yet. I am glad he wants to get into that too. For a 17 year old to say he wants to sell antiques, I think that’s very awesome.

I keep telling Regina to sell her clothes that she doesn’t wear, she has a ton of them and she could make some money but she doesn’t seem too interested. I thought that when she saw Marshal bringing in close to $200 in a week or two it would light a fire under her but it hasn’t. Who knows.

Aside from listing things for myself I’ve teamed up with a dealer that comes into my work and I will be listing items for him. He’s pretty cool and knows a lot about the business. I’ve already learned a bit from him and he is branching out of his comfort zone and starting to look into pottery now because he knows how much I enjoy it. The deal is that I’ll get 30% of his sales for listing, and any research I do. We haven’t discussed shipping yet but we will get there. I think I will start listing for him this weekend, so I am excited for that, he’s already shown me some really cool stuff he has for me.

Okay, well here are some of the items I but up for sale this week, sharing just because I am a proud mama :)

Of course I am still waiting on my daughter to do my logo. I’ll be retired when she finally gets it done.. I am just going to share my store link, if anyone wants to look, you can. Please forgive the fact that I have no branding yet lol

I always forget to add a title!

I’ve been working so hard on eBay for the past few weeks and it’s starting to pay off :) I have record breaking sales (my own records of course) and lots of momentum to keep it moving. I haven’t really known what to write about so I figured I’d just start and see where it takes me.

Obviously I have a lot to say (and do) when it comes to my start up. I would like to say I can’t believe that it’s really happening (and maybe I can’t) but mostly I’m not surprised. Not shocked yet any way. I think once I hit a thousand in sales I’ll celebrate a little and take it all in.

Yesterday I had 2 sales totaling 225 in a matter of 29 minutes.. before 7am. It was thrilling! It was quiet for the rest of the day though and now I’m feeling antsy lol

I’ve been writing little notes to all of my buyers and for items over $100 I send a thank you card. Those darn things are expensive! I was lucky yesterday and found a really cute pack of 10 for $1.99 but the first pack of 10 I bought was $10! They are nice cards though but after finding the nice ones yesterday for 2$ I am determined to not spend too much more than that ever again!

I did order some vintage postcards for super cheap and if they are nice I will order more. I plan on using them on all of the orders under $100. I really hope they are nice, I won’t get them until like the end of March though because they are coming from China. In the meantime I’ll just have to use the packing slip lol

Aidan was talking to me about ordering custom printed boxes and while I really want them I think that is getting a little too far ahead of ourselves just yet. In the future though, hell yeah! I don’t even have a logo or branding set up yet. That’s a big first step and it’s a huge important step too! So while I’m itching to get it done I am taking my time because I will be married to my decision, you know?

Ugh, boxes. I am almost out of boxes and while it’s great that I’m using the stockpile up it’s also creating stress. I don’t want to pay for them and have been thinking I should ask my neighbors to give me their boxes instead of recycling them. Would that be weird? Nah, they already think I’m weird anyway!

Okay, so some of the items I recently listed are really cool if you are into vintage things. I also have one really super awesome thing that I am not having much luck in my research with so I haven’t listed it yet. Anyway here are some of the things I listed this weekend, if you are interested..

These are the unedited photos, but can you tell what colors I am drawn to? Lol I’m sensing a theme here and it definitely wasn’t on purpose. I also like silver too and have a few things in that color scheme listed and to be listed..

I like shiny things, what can I say lol

Well, have a great day. If there is anything you’d like to buy up there send me an email and I’ll give you the link! I’m not pimping my store yet because it isn’t finished but I will when it’s done or at least looking a little better :)

New Finds

I am so glad that it is Friday and that I am off! Last week I worked different hours and covered a co-workers shift so it really wore me down. This week was my normal schedule and I am thankful for that!

I’m happy to report that I’ve sold 2 items yesterday after not having a sale for a week or two. I was beginning to get antsy but I wasn’t giving up. I’m glad I didn’t get discouraged :) My favorite item that I have listed right now are these really beautiful porcelain carpet balls:

Aren’t they amazing? I love the different patterns, they are very interesting and fun to look at. Another item that I love and added recently are these Russian handpainted eggs:

How pretty are they? Can you believe someone has such a steady hand and the patience to paint such small and beautiful designs?

I know I need to work on my photographs, the pictures could be much better and I will be replacing them with better ones when I can!

It’s been hard trying to start up an online store and work and be a Mom but it’s also been a lot of fun. I don’t have nearly enough time to put as much focus into my shop as I want but I’m making do and will just need to make the most of my time when the boys aren’t under foot.

Well, I have to make a few more listings and pack up the awesome orders :) Have a great day and happy Friday!

Feeling Positive

This weekend was great for me, I hope yours was too! On Saturday we were very busy at work and had great sales. There was down time so it didn’t feel hectic, but I like to be busy, the time goes by faster. I work alone on Saturdays and have a little competition with the girl who works on Sundays. She is great at selling and always beats my day end total but this weekend she didn’t! I had the highest sales that I’ve had on my own so far and it was awesome :)

On Sunday Regina and Marshal and I went out without the little kids. It was nice, just the three of us. We don’t get to do that often and we weren’t rushed for time. Marshal needed a haircut and Regina had to exchange some Christmas gifts. We also made a stop into a thrift store that I’ve been meaning to check out. Oh boy, am I glad we stopped!

I know I am being very hopeful when I say this and probably not too realistic, but I honestly believe I found an original Picasso. Seriously. I am going to do the things I need to do required by the Picasso estate and try to have it verified. Yes. Seriously. How fucking insane would that be? It gives me chills through my entire body! I’ll keep you updated for sure!!

In the same store Marshal found a signed first addition of a book that we are going to list on eBay. It will be his first item to list and I told him he can keep the profit :) I’m excited that he wants to do this with me, I hope he enjoys it!

I also got a few costume rings that are pretty and in great shape. Two of them are vintage and the other is a Juicy Couture. I got each of them for a buck each so I will list them low and hopefully make my investment back quickly :)

On Saturday I was talking to a regular dealer who comes into our store pretty frequently. She buys stuff from us then flips it and has great luck on eBay. She said she makes a couple thousand a month, as much as she makes in her brick and mortar store and she was giving me some tips. I am grateful for advice that I receive and have been talking to a few other dealers too. I am grateful for all the advice I can get but hers was the most encouraging so far!

I am really feeling good about this and just when I feel discouraged something great happens like getting positive feedback, getting a sale or a bid, finding something awesome or receiving a payment.  All of those things are fantastic and they all keep me motivated. I just want to sell, sell, sell!!

There are quite a few new things that I have to list and put up but I don’t want to pay listing fees and only have a handful of free listings left. This is where things are going to get tricky.. I need to figure out a strategy and remove the things that aren’t getting any interest. There are quite a few items I can list in the spring for Easter and spring in general so I think I won’t relist them now and then put them up when it’s a better time.

Holy shit, I can’t wrap my mind around the Picasso. Could you even imagine??

Recent Finds to Flip

So, I sold another item on eBay :)

It is the fourth thing I’ve sold on there.. the fourth item in the entertainment category, another dvd. Sigh. No, don’t get me wrong I am thrilled to be selling anything! I am disappointed that none of my home items have sold yet.. That’s where the money in my listings are and those are the items I love!

These dvd’s and video games are only bringing me in a buck or two each, but every dollar counts and are paying for the packaging materials, right? I am actually hoping they will help with my reviews. I got one good review so far, so that makes it worth it :)

I am very excited about a few items I picked up at the shop last weekend and plan on putting them on the Chairish site.

I have been in love with these glasses since I laid eyes on them and did some research & actually listed them for $100 on the stores eBay. No one bought them so I lowered the price, and then lowered it again. When I saw that they were also being reduced in the store all the way down to $25 I had to get them. My boss just wants them to move! I have no trouble waiting for a buyer though :)

These are Tiffin crystal, etched with gold encrusted rims. I am still doing research to find out exactly what the name of the pattern is but the most similar pattern I found retails these glasses at about 19.99 each. I have 4 sets of three different ones.. A water goblet, a wine glass and a dessert liquor glass in each set, for a total of 12 glasses. These are so beautiful and the value of the whole set is about $240. For spending $15 or so dollars on them, I say I got myself an awesome deal!

Of course I need to find the right buyer after I clean them all, find the pattern name and take great photos! I don’t mind doing any of that though because these are seriously beautiful and I get to enjoy the quality of them while I’m “working” on them :)

I also picked up two of these porcelain serving bowls by Ciroa for a little over $3.. for the pair. These are modern and I found the pattern name. They retail for $34.95 each. :) Happy dance! I’ll be putting these on Chairish as well as eBay.

The last glassware item I will show you today is this aqua colored bicentennial Ball jar. I bought this for $2 and it retails for about $13. I like it a lot though so I might keep it for myself as it looks nice on Hillary, my aqua chalk painted mid-century hutch.

I realize these pictures aren’t very good, I didn’t stage anything or even clean the table before taking them. I am just showing you my finds. Before I list anything for sale I’ll take nice photos!

I also got a really cool vintage looking phone but I left it in the store as a prop.. I’ll bring it home on Saturday or maybe tomorrow if the desk it is on has sold :) I haven’t decided what to do with that yet, it is just so cool and I got it for $15, so it was a good deal. Not great, but good!

Well, happy Wednesday everyone!

Snowy Saturday and Slow Sunday

How was everyone’s weekend? Were you effected by any snow storms? We had some snow here on Saturday which actually caused the store to shut down at 1 instead of 6. The snow itself wasn’t terrible but no one was really out and we only had one $5 sale. I didn’t mind being there but was happy when she said I could close because of the drive. It did take me an hour to get home, normally it takes a half hour.

When I got here the kids had some friends over and they were all just hanging out. It was nice that they were here, being good, having fun and not doing anything bad. They played Cards Against Humanity for a few hours and the little kids enjoyed all the attention for the big kids.

While they were hanging out I was down here working on my eBay page and listing a few more things. I just want to sell, sell, sell. Since selling the DVD’s and video game no one else has bought anything which is disappointing. I have faith though and I am using the time to play with pricing and stuff.

I set up a description on ebay and Chairish yesterday and feel good about it. I also worked on the house a little. The floors didn’t get as clean as I wanted because the vacuum stopped working well and I got distracted trying to fix it. Oh well, I’ll work on them throughout the week and get them all mopped and what not.

Speaking of this week it is a busy one for us here. We have a lot of appointments over the next three weeks and I’ll be glad when they are all over and done.

Well, I’ve got to get ready for work now. I hope you all have a happy Monday, stay warm!!
