Quick Catch Up & Happy Easter!

Well, hello! It’s been a crazy long time since I’ve written and for no other reason that I’ve been crazy busy! How are all of you? I hope you are doing well and enjoying the changing of the seasons! Spring is here and in full bloom :) Aidan has been working on the yard and getting it to look nice so that makes me super happy!

Tomorrow is Easter and I am hosting a small brunch. Yay! Up until about 5 years ago I hosted Easter brunch every year and I am really excited to be doing it again. There will only be like 5 people coming (as opposed to the old 20 count) but I am making a ton of food for them! I hope it will turn out well ;)

My store has really started taking off and it was really a great move to partner up with the clock guy I met through my work. He mostly has clock parts for me to sell for him but he also has a really good eye and finds some really neat stuff. It all sells well too and I am making money :)

Check out these antique tea cups! Some are listed and the others will be going live soon!

Aren’t they just amazing? I would love to have all of these to use in an office and I really can’t decide which is my favorite. They really are works of art and super extravagant!

I met my first goal of $1,000 in sales March and now I am nearing the $2,000 mark, it’s a really good feeling. My new goal that I am working towards is $1,000 in profit and I am pretty sure I have hit that already :) So I need some new goals! I have quite a few in mind :)

Aside from partnering up and making sales I’ve been finding some really cool stuff! The great thing about all of this is that I can buy all the things I love or that I want and then I keep them for a little while and enjoy them while they wait for their new home!

My inventory system needs a little (or a lot) of tweaking but for the most part I am pretty organized and (kind of) clutter free. My system is a bit chaotic as I am learning but it is finding a natural flow. I will need to figure a better system out soon though because if things keep going at this rate I will be upgrading my store to hold 2,000 listings a month. Right now I am at the 500 listings a month and half way through I am worried I am running out of listings. Like I said, goals in mind..

Well, I had to take Regina to work and now I have to get some housework done. I hope you all have a great holiday and I will try to write more soon!

More about the store..

Things have been going well here except that I am sooooo tired. I can’t even tell you how tired I have been, it’s that bad. If Aidan hadn’t gotten snipped I would think I was pregnant, that’s how tired I am! I suppose it’s because I have been doing so much lately that my body isn’t used to it, but it better catch up!

My sales on eBay pretty much came to a hault after 2 weeks into the month of February and that was very disappointing and totally nerve wracking. I was on my way to $1,000 then it just stopped and only video games sold after that, which I make only about $.50 on, so that was really aggravating. I messed with my keywords in the SEO part of my store though and I believe that had a lot to do with the down turn. It probably takes a few weeks for that to register?

Anyway I woke up to an okay sale this morning and I am feeling like things will turn back around :) I’m also thinking maybe people buy more frivolous things in the beginning of the month, we will see!

Marshal was inspired by my selling and started his own eBay, he is doing fantastic! He’s sold all but one of his items out of 5 and in my opinion that’s super impressive. I told him he will be beating me in sales soon. He said he wants to get into antiques like I am into. I don’t really have a lot to deal with antiques, I only have a handful of items, but that’s just because I haven’t come across too many yet. I am glad he wants to get into that too. For a 17 year old to say he wants to sell antiques, I think that’s very awesome.

I keep telling Regina to sell her clothes that she doesn’t wear, she has a ton of them and she could make some money but she doesn’t seem too interested. I thought that when she saw Marshal bringing in close to $200 in a week or two it would light a fire under her but it hasn’t. Who knows.

Aside from listing things for myself I’ve teamed up with a dealer that comes into my work and I will be listing items for him. He’s pretty cool and knows a lot about the business. I’ve already learned a bit from him and he is branching out of his comfort zone and starting to look into pottery now because he knows how much I enjoy it. The deal is that I’ll get 30% of his sales for listing, and any research I do. We haven’t discussed shipping yet but we will get there. I think I will start listing for him this weekend, so I am excited for that, he’s already shown me some really cool stuff he has for me.

Okay, well here are some of the items I but up for sale this week, sharing just because I am a proud mama :)

Of course I am still waiting on my daughter to do my logo. I’ll be retired when she finally gets it done.. I am just going to share my store link, if anyone wants to look, you can. Please forgive the fact that I have no branding yet lol

While it’s been quiet my mind is screaming

I don’t know the last time I wrote, it must have been about two weeks ago? Things have been going meh but not bad. I was on a roll selling stuff on eBay and then it just slowed down to the point that I keep talking into my phone saying “someone buy something”.

Seriously, I was getting one or two orders every other day or so for high priced items and now it’s been 3 things in a little over a week and those were for very low amount items. Very frustrating, considering I have some really kick ass stuff listed and for some really competitive prices. I was really hoping to reach a thousand in sales this month and right now I’m just hovering right under 750. There is still 6 days left to the month so it is still possible but I am feeling pretty discouraged.

The good news is that my sales have covered all of my inventory costs for the year and I still have a little profit. I also have a few more things to list and they are good things so I am happy about that. Of course I’ll have to get more inventory but I am putting myself on a hold for a little while, at least until my sales pick back up.

I got myself a side job with one of the dealers that comes into the shop, he is going to pay me 30% of what I sell for him on eBay. 30% is low but I am just breaking into the business and the experience will be worth double the pay. He’s given me some good pointers so far, that haven’t resulted in sales yet, but I believe he is right on the money with his advice.

He’s a good guy to get into business with, he brings in like 10k a month on eBay. I didn’t know if he was being honest at first but after some research I have decided to believe him. There are a lot of people making a lot of money on eBay and I am going to be one of them.

Anyway when he asked how many items I had listed I was pretty proud to say 67 items. He wasn’t impressed. He agreed that it was a good start though. The thing is that I don’t want to spend a billion dollars to make a thousand. Plus I have to keep track of all this stuff. It’s all mildly organized right now but if I get to 100 items I am really going to need a structured system. My spread sheet just isn’t cutting it and the overflow into our living space is giving me a headache.

I’ve been working on setting up the basement into an office area but it is taking me a long time. Between the little kids and my lack of determination at this point I am just moving things from on corner to the next. I need a whole day or two to get it functioning. Now that the weather is going to be nice soon I am getting the itch to Craigslist again but I seriously need to get organized or the jokes about me being a hoarder will no longer be jokes.

I think I need to get some string tags and start using numbers to organize this stuff in my spreadsheet. It will be easier for storing it too. I’ve also ordered some boxes and I am wondering if I should package the stuff so I can get a more accurate weight on it. Offering free shipping is a must for me and it’s making things harder on me in the end. Trying to be competitive price wise is tough because I have to include the shipping, otherwised I’d be getting burned for everything. Now that I’ve paid for all of my inventory costs though I could price everything as low as possible just to move it. But I want to make a nice nest egg for new inventory, you know.. So. I know I am all over the place, sorry for that.

Anyway here are a few of the newer items that I have listed, some really cool stuff I think..

These are the unedited photos but you get the idea.. I’m still waiting on Regina to finish my logo. It is taking foreverrrrrrr. If she ever finishes it I will share the store here. If you see something you like in this post or any other email me and I’ll give you the link, plus a discount ;)

I always forget to add a title!

I’ve been working so hard on eBay for the past few weeks and it’s starting to pay off :) I have record breaking sales (my own records of course) and lots of momentum to keep it moving. I haven’t really known what to write about so I figured I’d just start and see where it takes me.

Obviously I have a lot to say (and do) when it comes to my start up. I would like to say I can’t believe that it’s really happening (and maybe I can’t) but mostly I’m not surprised. Not shocked yet any way. I think once I hit a thousand in sales I’ll celebrate a little and take it all in.

Yesterday I had 2 sales totaling 225 in a matter of 29 minutes.. before 7am. It was thrilling! It was quiet for the rest of the day though and now I’m feeling antsy lol

I’ve been writing little notes to all of my buyers and for items over $100 I send a thank you card. Those darn things are expensive! I was lucky yesterday and found a really cute pack of 10 for $1.99 but the first pack of 10 I bought was $10! They are nice cards though but after finding the nice ones yesterday for 2$ I am determined to not spend too much more than that ever again!

I did order some vintage postcards for super cheap and if they are nice I will order more. I plan on using them on all of the orders under $100. I really hope they are nice, I won’t get them until like the end of March though because they are coming from China. In the meantime I’ll just have to use the packing slip lol

Aidan was talking to me about ordering custom printed boxes and while I really want them I think that is getting a little too far ahead of ourselves just yet. In the future though, hell yeah! I don’t even have a logo or branding set up yet. That’s a big first step and it’s a huge important step too! So while I’m itching to get it done I am taking my time because I will be married to my decision, you know?

Ugh, boxes. I am almost out of boxes and while it’s great that I’m using the stockpile up it’s also creating stress. I don’t want to pay for them and have been thinking I should ask my neighbors to give me their boxes instead of recycling them. Would that be weird? Nah, they already think I’m weird anyway!

Okay, so some of the items I recently listed are really cool if you are into vintage things. I also have one really super awesome thing that I am not having much luck in my research with so I haven’t listed it yet. Anyway here are some of the things I listed this weekend, if you are interested..

These are the unedited photos, but can you tell what colors I am drawn to? Lol I’m sensing a theme here and it definitely wasn’t on purpose. I also like silver too and have a few things in that color scheme listed and to be listed..

I like shiny things, what can I say lol

Well, have a great day. If there is anything you’d like to buy up there send me an email and I’ll give you the link! I’m not pimping my store yet because it isn’t finished but I will when it’s done or at least looking a little better :)

New Finds

I am so glad that it is Friday and that I am off! Last week I worked different hours and covered a co-workers shift so it really wore me down. This week was my normal schedule and I am thankful for that!

I’m happy to report that I’ve sold 2 items yesterday after not having a sale for a week or two. I was beginning to get antsy but I wasn’t giving up. I’m glad I didn’t get discouraged :) My favorite item that I have listed right now are these really beautiful porcelain carpet balls:

Aren’t they amazing? I love the different patterns, they are very interesting and fun to look at. Another item that I love and added recently are these Russian handpainted eggs:

img_9400

How pretty are they? Can you believe someone has such a steady hand and the patience to paint such small and beautiful designs?

I know I need to work on my photographs, the pictures could be much better and I will be replacing them with better ones when I can!

It’s been hard trying to start up an online store and work and be a Mom but it’s also been a lot of fun. I don’t have nearly enough time to put as much focus into my shop as I want but I’m making do and will just need to make the most of my time when the boys aren’t under foot.

Well, I have to make a few more listings and pack up the awesome orders :) Have a great day and happy Friday!

It was a good Thursday

Yesterday was fun but unfruitful in my search for a few items to put up for sale online. I decided that I wanted to check out a Goodwill store in an upper class neighborhood but I didn’t have any luck. Aidan and I took the little kids with us for the adventure. We had a nice ride through some really beautiful neighborhoods and then had a nice lunch before heading back home. I was disappointed that I didn’t find anything but that certainly didn’t ruin my day.

Later in the evening Regina and I went out to run a few errands and we had a lot of fun being goofy in another thrift store. We didn’t find anything in there worth buying but it was fun to act silly. Then we went to Michael’s craft store to pick up leafing supplies.

I am going to add more goldleaf to the lamp I did a few months ago. It looks pretty now but it definitely needs more to look it’s best. I also have another lamp that I picked up and want to cover in silver leaf and then antique the finish. It will look really nice I think! I’ll take pictures :)

Regina is going to be doing her own leafing on some art work she has drawn. I can’t wait to see it. She is a fantastic artist and I love her work, I’ll share that too if she lets me :)

After Michaels we stopped in a clothing consignment shop, where I was hoping to get a pair or two of pants. That didn’t work out and I really need to loose aa lot of weight. We followed that realization with buying sweatpants at Target and eating Taco Bell.

Marshal got his driver’s permit yesterday and let me tell you — holy shit I have two kids who can drive. Seriously, a 17 and 18 year old. I can’t believe it. Especially because I also have two toddlers. How crazy is that?  It makes my head spin.

Speaking of Marshal, I’ve gotta go get him up for school. I hope you all have a happy Friday! I’ll be working today and I can’t wait to get in and see all of the new stuff that I’ll want to buy :)

My first shipping error..

I was so happy last week when I finally got an order for something other than a dvd or video game on eBay. The order was for a Lenox butter dish that my mom had given me but I didn’t have any use for. It was a really cute dish and I so wanted it to be special for the buyer when it arrived.

I wrapped it as nicely as I could, I even turned an okay looking box inside out so it looked brand new. The inside was carefully wrapped with packing paper and air pocket things. It looked pretty good and I was hopeful they would feel like they were opening a gift.

Gah!

Yesterday I got an email from the buyer “It is broken, should have used bubble wrap…”

Omg, I feel terrible and really stupid and I was beating myself up for it all night. Seriously, it was stupid of me not to wrap it better. Like really stupid.

I apologized and refunded them right away. I don’t care about having to refund them, I care that they were disappointed. Lesson learned.

After beating myself up for hours I actually ended up getting a new order for a pair of Lilly Pulitzer earrings I had listed. Now I’m wondering if they should be bubble wrapped when I send them out. It might be overkill.

In other shipping news I took a chance and ordered two lots of vintage postcards to send in my packaging. I’m hoping to be able to figure out how to print the invoice on the back of them. If not I’ll just hand write the thank you as I’ve been doing.

I hope the cards are nice. They look really cool and for 64 it only cost me $7. If it isn’t legit at least I’ll have only spent $7 and if it is legit I will hopefully have some really cool shipping supplies :) Fingers crossed. I have to wait for two months for them to come in as they are coming from China and Hong Kong. I really hope they come..
